Keep your driving licence address up to date

Apart from the standard £1000 police fine if you do not update your address when you move, there are more serious consequences.

Identity Theft

An ex-client some years ago was pulled over for speeding, whilst sat in the back of the patrol car, he handed over his licence. When return to before exiting the vehicle, he did not secure it properly on his person and it fell out on the seat and exited without noticing.

The police man found it a while later and went to the address on the licence. As there was no reply and he must of been busy, he simply posted the licence through the letter box.

The occupant of the property then used the licence as I.D. to commit fraud. Obviously my client had one serious mess to resolve, which is very time consuming and very stressful. It can take a minimum of a year to fully de-tangle the mess left from identity theft. The best defence is prevention.

Anti Money Laundering Regulations (AML)

All professions now have to AML checks on new clients, where we ask for photo I.D.

In some cases we have to complete an additional verification; if you have supplied your driving licence with an incorrect address, one can fail the verification. This does not mean any sinister, just that additional document is required. It means it increases our admin time and you waste unnecessary time complying.
